Bella Explores the Haunted House
Bella and friends dare each other to look inside the spooky house. What they find is a surprise.
At the end of the street stood a tall, dark house with creaky shutters and a crooked door. Everyone said it was haunted. One windy evening, Ravi dared Bella to knock.
Bella gulped, but nodded. They crept up the path, step by step. The gate squeaked. A shutter banged. Something moved behind the curtain. They held hands tightly.
Bella knocked. The door creaked slowly open. A tall shadow appeared. ‘Hello?’ it said. They screamed! But it was only Enzo the elephant, holding a plate of cat biscuits.
‘Don’t be frightened,’ said Enzo. ‘Come in, come in.’ Inside it was warm and bright. They met a lonely old lady with a hundred cats. ‘We thought you were a ghost!’ laughed Ravi. ‘I get that a lot,’ said Enzo.
They stayed for hours, eating cat biscuits and hearing stories. When they left, Bella said, ‘Thank you for having us.’ ‘Come back anytime,’ said Enzo. And the house never seemed spooky again.
