Sam and friends dare each other to look inside the spooky house. What they find is a surprise.
At the end of the street stood a tall, dark house with creaky shutters and a crooked door. Everyone said it was haunted. One windy evening, Noah dared Sam to knock.
Sam gulped, but nodded. They crept up the path, step by step. The gate squeaked. A shutter banged. Something moved behind the curtain. They held hands tightly.
Sam knocked. The door creaked slowly open. A tall shadow appeared. ‘Hello?’ it said. They screamed! But it was only Pippa the pony, holding a plate of oil and toast.
‘Don’t be frightened,’ said Pippa. ‘Come in, come in.’ Inside it was warm and bright. They met a kind inventor with a robot. ‘We thought you were a ghost!’ laughed Noah. ‘I get that a lot,’ said Pippa.
They stayed for hours, eating oil and toast and hearing stories. When they left, Sam said, ‘Thank you for having us.’ ‘Come back anytime,’ said Pippa. And the house never seemed spooky again.
