Daisy was a little dragon who was scared of fire. Whenever she felt a tickle in her nose, she held it tight. ‘Please, please don’t let me sneeze,’ she whispered.
‘Dragons breathe fire!’ laughed Sia the snail. ‘Look!’ Sia lit a tiny candle, and it flickered. Daisy hid behind her tail. ‘It’s too hot, too bright, too scary!’
One chilly evening, Sia and Rani the mouse were shivering. Their campfire had gone out, and the wind was blowing hard. ‘If only we had a spark,’ said Rani.
Daisy looked at her friends. Her tummy was wobbly, but she thought, ‘They are cold, and I can help.’ She took a tiny breath. She closed her eyes. And she gently puffed.
Pffft! A small golden flame floated out, just as big as a button. It landed on the logs, and the campfire woke up. Crackle, crackle, crackle. It was warm and golden, not scary at all!
‘You lit the campfire!’ said Sia. Daisy opened one eye, then the other. ‘I did!’ she said. ‘It’s not scary when it’s gentle.’ Daisy snuggled by the fire with her friends.
