Felix Pitches a Tent
Felix sleeps in a tent for the first time and hears all the night sounds of the woods.
Felix and Pippa the panda were going camping! They carried their backpacks into the woods. They put up a tent, rolled out sleeping bags and collected twigs for a campfire.
As the sun went down, Ollie the owl lit the fire. They toasted toasted marshmallows and sang songs. Orange sparks drifted up into the sky. Felix thought it was the loveliest evening ever.
Later, they crawled into the tent. Zip! It was dark and snug. Then Felix heard a noise outside. ‘hoo-hoo!’ It was an owl. Felix sat up, a little scared.
‘It’s only an owl,’ whispered Pippa. They lifted the flap a crack. Moonlight shone on the grass. A thousand stars blinked above. Felix smiled. The sounds weren’t scary. They were the forest’s goodnight song.
In the morning, birds were singing. Felix woke up, stretched and unzipped the tent. Dew sparkled on the grass. ‘Can we do it again?’ he asked. ‘Every summer,’ said Ollie.
