Olive the panda was an astronaut. Today was her first flight into space! She put on her helmet and climbed into the shiny red rocket with Sana the kitten.
‘Ready?’ asked Sana. ‘Ready!’ said Olive. They counted together. ‘Five! Four! Three! Two! One!’ WHOOOOSH! The rocket blasted up into the sky.
Up, up, up they went, past the birds, past the clouds. The sky turned from blue to dark blue to black. Tiny stars twinkled all around. ‘Wow,’ whispered Olive.
Olive looked out of the window and saw a hundred twinkling stars. ‘Look!’ she said. ‘It’s the biggest thing I ever saw!’ Sana pressed her nose against the glass.
The rocket landed softly on the moon with a gentle bump. Olive stepped out. With each step, she floated up. Boing! Boing! Boing! She could jump higher than a house!
They planted a little flag, and waved to the blue Earth far away. ‘Hello, home!’ they called. Then they looked at each other and laughed with joy.
Then it was time to go home. Olive fell asleep on the way, dreaming of planets and stars. And when she woke up, she was in bed, still holding a tiny moon rock.
The little lesson

Let’s talk about it
- What would you like to see in space?
