Holly Flies to the Moon

🚀 SpaceAges 3–5⏱ 2 min read

Holly counts down and blasts off for the very first time. Whoosh!

Holly the hippo was an astronaut. Today was her first flight into space! She put on her helmet and climbed into the shiny red rocket with Mia the mouse.

‘Ready?’ asked Mia. ‘Ready!’ said Holly. They counted together. ‘Five! Four! Three! Two! One!’ WHOOOOSH! The rocket blasted up into the sky.

Up, up, up they went, past the birds, past the clouds. The sky turned from blue to dark blue to black. Tiny stars twinkled all around. ‘Wow,’ whispered Holly.

Holly looked out of the window and saw a big orange planet. ‘Look!’ she said. ‘It’s the biggest thing I ever saw!’ Mia pressed her nose against the glass.

The rocket landed softly on the moon with a gentle bump. Holly stepped out. With each step, she floated up. Boing! Boing! Boing! She could jump higher than a house!

They planted a little flag, and waved to the blue Earth far away. ‘Hello, home!’ they called. Then they looked at each other and laughed with joy.

Then it was time to go home. Holly fell asleep on the way, dreaming of planets and stars. And when she woke up, she was in bed, still holding a tiny moon rock.
