Iris, the Knight Who Was Scared of the Dark
Iris is a brave knight by day, but at night, the dark castle is very spooky.
Iris was the bravest knight in the kingdom. She had a shiny helmet and a wooden sword. In the daytime, she was not afraid of anything. But at night, in the dark castle, she felt a little shaky.
The shadows looked like monsters. The creaks sounded like growls. Iris pulled the blanket up to her nose. ‘I’m a knight,’ she whispered. ‘Knights aren’t scared.’ But she was.
Then Cleo the bear climbed onto the bed. ‘Do you want to go for a walk?’ asked Cleo. ‘I have a star lamp.’ Iris nodded. Together they tiptoed into the hall.
The monster in the corner was only a coat on a hook. The growl was the wind in the chimney. The big shadow was Iris’s own shadow, waving back. Iris began to giggle.
‘The dark isn’t so scary with a friend and some light,’ said Iris. Cleo snuggled close. And Iris climbed back into bed, with a star lamp glowing softly beside her, and fell fast asleep.
