Isaac’s Giant’s Missing Sock
A giant has lost his sock, and it’s the size of a house! Can small Isaac find it?
Every morning, the giant Mabel woke up in a good mood. But one morning, Mabel woke up in a very bad mood. ‘My sock!’ she roared. ‘My left sock is MISSING!’
The ground shook. The birds flew off. In the village below, Isaac the turtle and Finn the frog felt the whole street wobble. ‘What is that?’ asked Finn. ‘It’s the giant,’ said Isaac. ‘I think he needs help.’
They climbed up the hill and shouted as loudly as they could. ‘GIANT Mabel! What does your sock look like?’ The giant bent down. It was like looking up at a mountain. ‘It’s red and stripy,’ she sniffled. ‘And very, very big.’
So Isaac and Finn set off to look for a red, stripy sock the size of a house. They looked in the barn. No sock. They looked under the bridge. No sock. ‘Hmm,’ said Isaac, thinking hard.
Then Isaac spotted something red and stripy near the orchard. It was the sock! And it was being used already, because the birds had made a nest in it. ‘It’s a really good sock,’ said Finn.
Isaac had an idea. ‘We can’t take the sock away from everyone,’ he said. ‘But the giant can have the next one we make!’ The villagers knitted day and night, and soon had a brand-new giant-sized sock.
The giant was so happy that he picked up Isaac and Finn and gave them a ride on his shoulders. ‘Thank you, little ones!’ he said. And the old sock stayed where it was, and everybody was snug.
