Kiki’s Cosy Igloo
Kiki builds an igloo with her family and has a snug night under the northern lights.
Kiki lived in a land of ice and snow. One bright, cold morning, Kiki said, ‘Let’s build an igloo!’ With Chloe the kitten, she cut blocks of snow and stacked them in a ring.
Block by block, the dome grew higher. Soon there was a round white house with a little doorway. Inside, it was dim and snug. Kiki laid down furs, a lantern and fish stew.
That night, they ate fish stew and told stories. Outside the wind howled, but in the igloo it was warm. Chloe snuggled up. ‘This is the best house,’ she said, yawning.
Then Kiki crept outside. The sky was dancing! Green and purple ribbons of light swirled across the stars, the northern lights. Kiki gasped. Chloe came out too. They stood quietly and watched.
Later, tucked in under the furs, Kiki whispered, ‘Goodnight, igloo.’ And as the aurora flickered over the snow, Kiki fell asleep with a smile.
