Kira’s First Kick
Kira the koala has never kicked a ball before. Today is the big day!
Kira the koala loved watching the big kids play football at Willow Green. The ball went zoom, zoom, zoom! She wished she could play too.
‘Do you want to play?’ asked Hattie the hedgehog. Kira nodded. Hattie rolled the ball across the grass, all the way to Kira’s feet.
Kira took a big swing and KICK! Oh no! The ball bounced the wrong way and rolled into the bushes. ‘Never mind,’ said Hattie. ‘Try again!’
Kira tried again. And again. She wobbled. She tumbled. She giggled. Kicking was much harder than it looked!
Then Kira took a deep breath. ‘Eyes on the ball,’ she whispered. She kicked. THUMP! The ball rolled straight to Hattie. ‘You did it!’ cheered Hattie.
They kicked the ball back and forth until the sun began to sink. Kira had a biscuit for being brave.
Kira skipped home with muddy knees and a great big smile. Tomorrow, she would kick even better. Hooray for Kira!
