Knock, Knock, Who’s at Suki’s Door?
Suki hears a strange knock in the night. Who could it be?
It was night, and the stars were out. Suki the snail was snuggled in bed, nearly asleep. Then, tick, tick, tick. Suki sat up. ‘What was that?’
Suki pulled the blanket up to her nose. Tick, tick, tick went the noise again. Suki tiptoed to the door and peeked outside. Nobody there. Just the dark.
Suki went to wake Luca the little bird. ‘I heard something,’ whispered Suki. ‘Let’s find out what it is,’ said Luca. ‘Together, we aren’t afraid.’
They crept along the path. Tick, tick, tick went the noise. It was coming from behind a big tree. Suki held Luca’s hand tightly. ‘One, two, three... Look!’
And there was Lena the mouse! ‘Oh, hello,’ said Lena. ‘I’m sorry to wake you. I was hungry and a little bit lonely.’ Suki felt silly for being afraid. She smiled.
They took Lena home for warm milk and a cosy blanket. Soon all three friends were fast asleep. And the only noise in the night was gentle snoring.
