Louie Takes Charge
Captain Cara has a bad cold and can’t use any superpowers. Sidekick Louie has to save the day!
Captain Cara the cow was the strongest superhero in the city. He could lift buses and fly over buildings. And Louie the little bird was her sidekick, who always carried the snacks.
One morning, Captain Cara woke up sneezing. ‘A-A-A-CHOO!’ She had a terrible cold. Her nose was red and her cape was soggy. ‘I can’t fly,’ she sniffled. ‘I can’t lift anything.’
Just then, the alarm rang. DING-DONG! In the city, a runaway balloon was carrying a baby bird up into the sky. ‘Quick, Louie!’ said Captain Cara, wiping her nose. ‘You’ll have to go.’ Louie gulped. ‘Me?’
Louie ran to the scene. A crowd had gathered, looking worried. Kiki the kitten said, ‘Where’s the Captain?’ ‘He’s sick,’ said Louie. ‘But I’m here. I’ll fix it!’
Louie wasn’t strong, but he was clever. He looked at the problem from every side. Then he had an idea. He threw a ball of string to hook it and pull it gently down. And it worked!
The crowd burst into cheers. ‘Hooray for Louie!’ they shouted. Louie blushed so hard that his ears went pink. He had done it all himself.
Back home, Captain Cara was sipping hot lemon. ‘You saved the day,’ said Cara, between sneezes. ‘From now on, you’re not a sidekick. You’re my partner.’ And Louie got a brand-new cape with a golden star.
