Market Day with Faye
Faye gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help her find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Faye was holding Xena’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Faye was alone.
Faye turned round and round. Everything looked the same. Her eyes filled with tears. Then Mia the elephant leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ she asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Faye. Mia gave her candied nuts. ‘Eat that,’ she said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ She rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Manu the mouse ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Faye onto a crate so she could see over the crowd. And there was Xena, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Xena. ‘Me too,’ said Faye. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
