Market Day with Olive
Olive gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help her find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Olive was holding Hattie’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Olive was alone.
Olive turned round and round. Everything looked the same. Her eyes filled with tears. Then Basil the pony leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ he asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Olive. Basil gave her sweet dates. ‘Eat that,’ he said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ He rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Amara the panda ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Olive onto a crate so she could see over the crowd. And there was Hattie, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Hattie. ‘Me too,’ said Olive. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
