Market Day with Oscar
Oscar gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help him find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Oscar was holding Otto’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Oscar was alone.
Oscar turned round and round. Everything looked the same. His eyes filled with tears. Then Pearl the pony leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ she asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Oscar. Pearl gave him fresh mangoes. ‘Eat that,’ she said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ She rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Layla the lion ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Oscar onto a crate so he could see over the crowd. And there was Otto, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Otto. ‘Me too,’ said Oscar. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
