Mia Learns to Swim
Mia is afraid of the deep water, but a patient friend helps her take one little step at a time.
The swimming pool was huge and blue. Mia stood at the edge, toes curled. The water looked so deep. βI canβt do it,β Mia whispered. Her knees were wobbling.
Esme the turtle smiled kindly. βWeβll go slowly,β she said. βFirst, just put your feet in.β Mia sat on the side and dipped her toes. Splash! It was cool and nice.
Next, Mia stepped into the shallow end with a rubber ring. Cara the crab swam beside her. βIβll stay right here,β said Cara. Mia kicked. Splash, splash, splash!
Day by day, Mia did more. She blew bubbles. She floated on her back, looking at the ceiling lights. She even put her face in the water. Each time, Cara cheered.
At last, the day came. Mia pushed off the wall and swam, all by herself, across the pool. βIβm swimming!β she shouted. Everyone applauded. Mia had never felt so proud.
