Noah’s Parrot Who Told Secrets
Tomas the parrot repeats everything he hears, including the secret surprise party!
It was nearly Captain Gia’s birthday, and Noah had a secret plan. ‘We’ll give the Captain a golden telescope!’ he whispered. ‘But nobody must say a word.’ Tomas the parrot nodded very seriously.
But Tomas was a parrot, and parrots repeat everything. When Gia walked by, Tomas said, ‘SECRET! SECRET! A golden telescope!’ Noah jumped up. ‘Er, nothing!’ he said. ‘It’s just Tomas being silly.’
Gia raised an eyebrow. ‘A secret?’ she said. ‘What secret?’ Tomas opened his beak. Noah quickly stuffed a cracker in it. Tomas said, ‘Mmph! Mmph!’ which was the nearest he could get.
All week, Noah had to guard the surprise. He hid it under the sail. He kept Tomas busy with crackers and games. Tomas nearly told again three times. Once, Tomas even began to sing the whole plan.
On the big day, Gia stepped onto the deck, and everyone jumped up. ‘SURPRISE!’ they shouted. Gia looked so astonished. And then Tomas flapped up and squawked, ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY!’ before anyone else could.
Gia laughed so much that her hat fell off. ‘I knew there was a secret,’ she said, ‘but I didn’t know it would be such a good one.’ Noah gave Gia a golden telescope, and Tomas got the biggest cracker.
