Sandcastle Day with Percy
Percy builds a sandcastle, and the tide comes in. Oh no! Or maybe, oh yes!
It was a hot, sunny day at the beach. Percy had a bucket and spade, and a big idea: to build the tallest sandcastle in the world. Enzo the elephant said, ‘I’ll help!’
They dug and piled and patted. They built towers, walls and a moat. They decorated the top with pebbles. Beth the whale peeked out of the waves and clapped a claw. ‘Splendid!’
But slowly, slowly, the sea crept closer. Swish, swish. A little wave touched the moat. A bigger wave touched the wall. ‘Oh no!’ cried Percy. ‘The tide is coming in!’
Whoosh! The water washed over the castle, and it melted into smooth sand. Percy stared. Then he laughed. ‘We’ll build another one tomorrow,’ he said. Beth nodded. ‘The sea will always bring more sand.’
The sun set, red and gold. Percy sat on the sand, tired and happy. ‘Making it was the best bit,’ he said. And Enzo agreed.
The little lesson
