Slow and Steady with Luca
A proud runner mocks a slow friend and learns that steady effort beats a quick start.
Luca the little bird was the fastest in the forest and loved to boast. One day, Luca laughed at Priya the frog. βYou are so slow!β Luca said. Priya said calmly, βSlow, but I always get there.β
βLetβs race to the top of the hill,β said Priya. βThe winner gets a basket of berries.β Luca laughed so hard. βYouβll never beat me!β But Priya only smiled.
The race began. Luca zoomed off, leaving Priya behind. Halfway up, Luca looked back. Priya was just a dot. βI have plenty of time,β Luca thought, and lay down for a nap.
Priya didnβt stop. Step by step, one foot after another, Priya plodded up the hill. Past the sleeping Luca. Past the rock. Past the old pine tree. Never stopping.
When Luca woke up, Priya was already at the top, holding a basket of berries. Luca dashed up, but too late. βYou won,β said Luca, embarrassed. βSlow and steady,β smiled Priya. And Luca never boasted again.
