Splash! Alba Takes the Plunge
Alba is afraid of the deep water, but a patient friend helps her take one little step at a time.
The swimming pool was huge and blue. Alba stood at the edge, toes curled. The water looked so deep. ‘I can’t do it,’ Alba whispered. Her knees were wobbling.
Otto the owl smiled kindly. ‘We’ll go slowly,’ he said. ‘First, just put your feet in.’ Alba sat on the side and dipped her toes. Splash! It was cool and nice.
Next, Alba stepped into the shallow end with armbands. Flo the fish swam beside her. ‘I’ll stay right here,’ said Flo. Alba kicked. Splash, splash, splash!
Day by day, Alba did more. She blew bubbles. She floated on her back, looking at the ceiling lights. She even put her face in the water. Each time, Flo cheered.
At last, the day came. Alba pushed off the wall and swam, all by herself, across the pool. ‘I’m swimming!’ she shouted. Everyone applauded. Alba had never felt so proud.
