The Great Harvest Festival with Dev
Everyone is growing something for the harvest festival. Dev’s pumpkin is the biggest yet, but it won’t budge.
All summer, Dev the pony watered and weeded a gigantic pumpkin. By autumn, it was enormous. ‘It will win first prize at the harvest festival!’ he thought proudly.
The festival was tomorrow. But a gigantic pumpkin was so huge that Dev could not move it. He pushed. He pulled. He rolled. It would not budge. Dev flopped on the grass, dejected.
Cleo the cow wandered past. ‘Need a hand?’ she asked. Together, they pushed. It moved a little. Then Pippa the lion came along. ‘Let me help,’ she said in a deep voice.
The three of them heaved and hoed. They laid down logs to roll it, and slowly, slowly, a gigantic pumpkin rolled to the festival. Neighbours stopped to cheer them on, and soon half the farm was pushing.
At the festival, Zara the bear looked at the entries. ‘The biggest of all!’ she announced. Dev stepped up to get the ribbon. But Dev looked at the crowd behind him. ‘It wasn’t just me,’ he said.
So Dev shared the ribbon with every helper. They baked a great pie from the crop and fed the whole festival. It was the best harvest the farm had ever known.
