Yusuf was poor but hard-working. Every day, he used a simple simple whistle to help the village. One morning by the river, the simple whistle slipped from his hand and splashed into the deep water.
Yusuf sat down on the bank and sighed. It was his only one. Suddenly, the water swirled, and Bella the unicorn rose from the waves, shining. ‘Why are you sad?’ she asked.
When Yusuf explained, Bella dived down and came up with a shiny silver whistle. ‘Is this yours?’ Yusuf shook his head. ‘No, mine was plain.’ Bella dived again and came up with another. ‘No,’ said Yusuf, ‘it was wooden.’
The third time, Bella brought up the simple whistle. ‘That’s mine!’ said Yusuf, delighted. Bella smiled. ‘You told the truth three times, even when you could have lied. For that, you shall have all three.’
Yusuf went home with the simple whistle and the shiny gifts. He shared them with the village. And everyone said, ‘Honesty is the finest treasure of all.’
