A New Friend for Rosie
A new child arrives at the playground and nobody talks to Lola. Rosie steps forward.
It was a sunny morning at the park. Children were running, jumping and laughing. But over by the fence, Lola stood alone. Lola had just moved to town and didn’t know anybody.
Rosie noticed. She saw how quiet Lola was, with her hands tucked in her pockets. Rosie remembered what it felt like to be new. She took a deep breath and walked over.
‘Hi,’ said Rosie. ‘I’m Rosie. Do you want to play hide and seek?’ Lola’s face lit up. ‘Yes, please!’ she said. ‘I’m Lola.’ And they ran off together.
Soon Dylan joined in too. They played hide and seek until the sun was high. Lola laughed so much that her tummy hurt. It was the best first day ever.
At home time, Lola turned to Rosie. ‘Thank you for saying hello,’ she said. Rosie smiled. ‘See you tomorrow!’ And they waved all the way down the road.
