A Night Under the Stars with Idris
Idris sleeps in a tent for the first time and hears all the night sounds of the woods.
Idris and Faye the frog were going camping! They carried their backpacks into the woods. They put up a tent, rolled out sleeping bags and collected twigs for a campfire.
As the sun went down, Bear the elephant lit the fire. They toasted hot cocoa and sang songs. Orange sparks drifted up into the sky. Idris thought it was the loveliest evening ever.
Later, they crawled into the tent. Zip! It was dark and snug. Then Idris heard a noise outside. βtweet-tweet!β It was a nightingale. Idris sat up, a little scared.
βItβs only a nightingale,β whispered Faye. They lifted the flap a crack. Moonlight shone on the grass. A thousand stars blinked above. Idris smiled. The sounds werenβt scary. They were the forestβs goodnight song.
In the morning, birds were singing. Idris woke up, stretched and unzipped the tent. Dew sparkled on the grass. βCan we do it again?β he asked. βEvery summer,β said Bear.
