A Night Under the Stars with Nora
Nora sleeps in a tent for the first time and hears all the night sounds of the woods.
Nora and Pippa the piglet were going camping! They carried their backpacks into the woods. They put up a tent, rolled out sleeping bags and collected twigs for a campfire.
As the sun went down, Omar the elephant lit the fire. They toasted baked beans and sang songs. Orange sparks drifted up into the sky. Nora thought it was the loveliest evening ever.
Later, they crawled into the tent. Zip! It was dark and snug. Then Nora heard a noise outside. ‘yip-yip!’ It was a fox. Nora sat up, a little scared.
‘It’s only a fox,’ whispered Pippa. They lifted the flap a crack. Moonlight shone on the grass. A thousand stars blinked above. Nora smiled. The sounds weren’t scary. They were the forest’s goodnight song.
In the morning, birds were singing. Nora woke up, stretched and unzipped the tent. Dew sparkled on the grass. ‘Can we do it again?’ she asked. ‘Every summer,’ said Omar.
