Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga, choo, choo. The little night train rolled into the station. It was painted dark blue with silver stars. ‘All aboard for Dreamland!’ called the driver softly.
Kofi the kitten climbed aboard in his nightcap, yawning. ‘Ticket, please,’ said the driver. Kofi handed over a little piece of paper. There was a seat by the window, with a soft, squashy cushion.
At Cuddly Corner, the train stopped. Poppy the duck hopped on, carrying a teddy. ‘May I sit here?’ asked Poppy. ‘Of course,’ whispered Kofi. They shared a blanket.
Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga. The train went over a gentle hill. It went through a tunnel of stars. Outside the window, fields of silver passed by. Stan the snail joined them.
Chugga... Chugga... Chugga... The train slowed down. Its rhythm was soft and slow, like a heartbeat. Kofi’s head rested on Poppy’s shoulder. Poppy’s head rested on Stan.
‘Next stop, Dreamland,’ whispered the driver. But the passengers were already there, fast asleep. Chugga... Chugga... Shhh.
