Arjun was a little dragon who was scared of fire. Whenever he felt a tickle in his nose, he held it tight. ‘Please, please don’t let me sneeze,’ he whispered.
‘Dragons breathe fire!’ laughed Amy the mouse. ‘Look!’ Amy lit a tiny candle, and it flickered. Arjun hid behind his tail. ‘It’s too hot, too bright, too scary!’
One chilly evening, Amy and Cara the turtle were shivering. Their campfire had gone out, and the wind was blowing hard. ‘If only we had a spark,’ said Cara.
Arjun looked at his friends. His tummy was wobbly, but he thought, ‘They are cold, and I can help.’ He took a tiny breath. He closed his eyes. And he gently puffed.
Pffft! A small golden flame floated out, just as big as a button. It landed on the logs, and the campfire woke up. Crackle, crackle, crackle. It was warm and golden, not scary at all!
‘You toasted a marshmallow!’ said Amy. Arjun opened one eye, then the other. ‘I did!’ he said. ‘It’s not scary when it’s gentle.’ Arjun snuggled by the fire with his friends.
