The trees were wearing red, orange and gold. All day, leaves floated down, tick, tick, tick. Xena and Poppy the panda took rakes to the garden. ‘Let’s make a leaf pile!’ said Xena.
They raked and raked. The pile grew as tall as Poppy. Then as tall as Xena. Then Kiki the rabbit popped out of the pile. ‘Surprise!’ she laughed. Kiki had been napping inside.
‘Let’s jump!’ said Xena. One, two, three, and WHOOSH! They flew into the leaves. Crunch! Leaves flew everywhere like confetti. They giggled so much they couldn’t stop.
When they were tired, they sat down and made a leaf necklace from the prettiest leaves. Xena found a golden one the size of a plate. ‘Look at this!’ she cried.
As the sun went down, a gust of wind blew the leaf pile all over again. ‘Let’s do it again tomorrow!’ said Poppy. And they did.
