Benji Drops Pebbles

Benji is thirsty, but the water is too low in the jug. A clever idea saves the day!

It was a hot, dry day. Benji the bear was very thirsty. He flew and flew, but all the ponds had dried up. At last, he spotted a jug under a tree.

Benji peeked inside. There was water, but only at the very bottom. His beak couldn’t reach. He tried to tip the jug, but it was too heavy. Benji was sad and tired.

Then Benji had a clever idea. He picked up a pebble and dropped it in. Plink! The water rose a little. Benji dropped another. Plink! And another.

Plink, plink, plink! Soon the water rose to the top. Benji dipped his beak and drank, and drank. β€˜Ahh,’ sighed Benji. β€˜Thinking helps more than worrying.’
