Bruno Finds a Friend
Bruno is so shy that he hides from everyone, until a friend needs help.
Bruno the bee was very, very shy. When anyone said hello, Bruno hid behind a bush. ‘Maybe they won’t notice me,’ he whispered.
One windy day, Eli the hippo came by. Eli was sniffling. ‘I’ve lost my silver bell,’ said Eli. ‘It blew away, and I can’t find it anywhere.’
Bruno peeked out. He wanted to help, but his voice felt tiny. ‘I... I... ‘ he began. But the words were too small to hear.
Then Bruno saw something shiny high up on a branch. It was the silver bell! Bruno was small and quick, so he climbed up, up, up, and gently plucked it down.
Bruno tiptoed over to Eli and held out the silver bell. ‘Oh!’ said Eli. ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you!’ Eli gave Bruno the biggest hug.
‘Would you like to be friends?’ asked Eli. Bruno took a tiny breath. ‘Yes,’ he said. It was the loudest yes he had ever said.
