Captain Pearl Has a Cold
Captain Pearl has a bad cold and can’t use any superpowers. Sidekick Tara has to save the day!
Captain Pearl the pony was the strongest superhero in the city. She could lift buses and fly over buildings. And Tara the turtle was her sidekick, who always carried the snacks.
One morning, Captain Pearl woke up sneezing. ‘A-A-A-CHOO!’ She had a terrible cold. Her nose was red and her cape was soggy. ‘I can’t fly,’ she sniffled. ‘I can’t lift anything.’
Just then, the alarm rang. DING-DONG! In the city, a kite was stuck high in a tree. ‘Quick, Tara!’ said Captain Pearl, wiping her nose. ‘You’ll have to go.’ Tara gulped. ‘Me?’
Tara ran to the scene. A crowd had gathered, looking worried. Lola the lamb said, ‘Where’s the Captain?’ ‘He’s sick,’ said Tara. ‘But I’m here. I’ll fix it!’
Tara wasn’t strong, but she was clever. She looked at the problem from every side. Then she had an idea. She made a long stick with a hook and gently lifted it down. And it worked!
The crowd burst into cheers. ‘Hooray for Tara!’ they shouted. Tara blushed so hard that her ears went pink. She had done it all herself.
Back home, Captain Pearl was sipping hot lemon. ‘You saved the day,’ said Pearl, between sneezes. ‘From now on, you’re not a sidekick. You’re my partner.’ And Tara got a brand-new cape with a golden star.
