Chloe Looks After the Class Pet
Chloe is in charge of the class pet for the weekend, but it goes missing.
On Friday, Yara the deer said, βThis weekend, Chloe will take Nell the rabbit home.β Chloe was thrilled. She carried the cage home like treasure.
On Saturday morning, Chloe went to feed Nell. The cage door was open! The cage was empty! Chloeβs heart fell. She had forgotten to latch it properly. Nell was missing!
Chloe searched everywhere. She looked under the bed. She looked in the bath. Nothing. She wanted to hide the mistake. But Chloe knew that wouldnβt help Nell. She called Tomas.
βI lost Nell,β Chloe said. Tomas said, βDonβt panic. Letβs look together.β They tiptoed through the house, whispering. And at last, they heard a tiny rustle behind the curtain.
There was Nell, safe and sound, looking sleepy. Chloe scooped Nell up gently, and checked the latch three times. On Monday, Chloe told Yara what had happened. βThank you for being honest,β said Yara.
βWe all make mistakes,β said Yara. βChloe fixed it, and thatβs what counts.β And from then on, Chloe was the most careful pet-minder in the class.
