Sports Day with Nora
Nora comes last in the race, but wins something more special than a medal.
It was Sports Day, and the field was full of flags and cheering parents. Nora lined up for the three-legged race. Her tummy fluttered. She wanted to win very much.
‘Ready, steady, GO!’ Arjun zoomed ahead. Nora ran as fast as she could. But halfway, the sack slipped. Nora wobbled and fell behind. One by one, the others crossed the finish line.
Nora came last. Her eyes began to water. But then she heard something. Everyone was clapping and shouting, ‘Come on, Nora! You can do it!’ She wiped her eyes, and kept going.
When Nora crossed the line, the whole field roared. Arjun ran over and hugged her. ‘You never gave up,’ said Arjun. ‘That’s more brave than winning.’
Omar gave Nora a special sticker: ‘Best Try of the Day.’ Nora wore it all afternoon. It shone brighter than any medal.
