Chuff, Chuff, Chuff! It’s Layla
A little train has to climb a big hill, and says, ‘I think I can!’
Layla the little bird was a little blue train. She carried baskets of fruit to the children on the other side of the mountain. But between the town and the children stood a very big hill.
Bigger trains had said, ‘Too steep!’ and rolled away. Layla looked at the hill. It was tall and green. Layla puffed out her chest. ‘I think I can,’ she said. ‘I think I can.’
Chuff, chuff, chuff, up the slope went Layla. Chuff, chuff, chuff. Halfway up, Layla felt very tired. But she kept saying, ‘I think I can, I think I can.’ Pippa cheered beside the track.
At the top, Layla took a big breath. ‘I thought I could!’ she said. Then down the other side she went, whoosh! The children were waiting, waving and cheering.
They unloaded the baskets of fruit, and the children gave Layla a big hug. ‘Thank you, little train!’ they cried. And Layla puffed home that evening, singing ‘I knew I could!’
