Daisy and the Magic Stone Soup
Daisy makes soup from a stone, and the whole village adds one thing at a time.
Daisy the owl arrived in a village on a cold evening, very hungry. The people shut their doors. βWe have nothing to spare,β they said. Daisy sat in the square, thinking.
Then Daisy lit a fire and filled a big pot with water. She dropped in a smooth round stone. βIβm making stone soup,β she announced. βItβs magic. It only needs a little something extra.β
Priya the lamb peeked out. βStone soup?β she said. βI have some carrots.β Into the pot they went. Then Flo the fox brought herbs. Arjun the hippo brought a bag of rice.
The soup bubbled and smelled wonderful. Soon the whole village gathered round with bowls and spoons. Everyone shared, and there was plenty for all.
βBest soup I ever had,β said Arjun. Daisy smiled and fished out the stone. βThe magic wasnβt in the stone,β she said. βIt was in sharing.β And the village was never unfriendly again.
The little lesson
When everyone shares a little, there is plenty for all.
Letβs talk about it
- What did each neighbour add?
- Is there really magic in the stone?
