Daisy Learns to Kick
Daisy the deer has never kicked a ball before. Today is the big day!
Daisy the deer loved watching the big kids play football at the Old Mill Field. The ball went zoom, zoom, zoom! She wished she could play too.
‘Do you want to play?’ asked Freya the frog. Daisy nodded. Freya rolled the ball across the grass, all the way to Daisy’s feet.
Daisy took a big swing and KICK! Oh no! The ball bounced the wrong way and rolled into the bushes. ‘Never mind,’ said Freya. ‘Try again!’
Daisy tried again. And again. She wobbled. She tumbled. She giggled. Kicking was much harder than it looked!
Then Daisy took a deep breath. ‘Eyes on the ball,’ she whispered. She kicked. THUMP! The ball rolled straight to Freya. ‘You did it!’ cheered Freya.
They kicked the ball back and forth until the sun began to sink. Daisy had some sweet grapes for being brave.
Daisy skipped home with muddy knees and a great big smile. Tomorrow, she would kick even better. Hooray for Daisy!
