In the jungle, everyone had a big voice. Percy the cow could roar. Enzo the zebra could screech. But Danny the snail could only make a peep.
‘Speak up!’ said everyone. Danny tried and tried, but only a peep came out. Danny felt sad. ‘I wish I had a big voice,’ he said. Percy gave Danny a hug. ‘You are perfect as you are,’ he said.
That night, a storm rolled in. Thunder boomed and rain poured. Baby Enzo was lost in the thick leaves. All the big voices called, but the thunder drowned them out.
Danny listened. Between thunder claps, he heard a faint cry. It was high and thin, the kind of sound that big voices couldn’t hear. Danny called back with a peep. And Enzo heard it.
Following the tiny sound, Enzo found the way home. Everyone cheered. ‘Only Danny could make a sound that carries through the storm!’ said Percy. Danny grinned.
