Dexter and the Spice Market
Dexter gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help him find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Dexter was holding Freyaβs hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Dexter was alone.
Dexter turned round and round. Everything looked the same. His eyes filled with tears. Then Dylan the deer leaned over a stall. βAre you lost, little one?β he asked in a soft voice.
βI canβt find my friend,β sniffed Dexter. Dylan gave him fresh mangoes. βEat that,β he said, βand weβll find them together.β He rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Sia the cow ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Dexter onto a crate so he could see over the crowd. And there was Freya, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. βI was so scared!β said Freya. βMe too,β said Dexter. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
