Dylan was a little dragon who was scared of fire. Whenever he felt a tickle in his nose, he held it tight. ‘Please, please don’t let me sneeze,’ he whispered.
‘Dragons breathe fire!’ laughed Pearl the frog. ‘Look!’ Pearl lit a tiny candle, and it flickered. Dylan hid behind his tail. ‘It’s too hot, too bright, too scary!’
One chilly evening, Pearl and Faye the hedgehog were shivering. Their campfire had gone out, and the wind was blowing hard. ‘If only we had a spark,’ said Faye.
Dylan looked at his friends. His tummy was wobbly, but he thought, ‘They are cold, and I can help.’ He took a tiny breath. He closed his eyes. And he gently puffed.
Pffft! A small golden flame floated out, just as big as a button. It landed on the logs, and the campfire woke up. Crackle, crackle, crackle. It was warm and golden, not scary at all!
‘You lit the lanterns!’ said Pearl. Dylan opened one eye, then the other. ‘I did!’ he said. ‘It’s not scary when it’s gentle.’ Dylan snuggled by the fire with his friends.
