Dylan’s Hat That Wouldn’t Stay On
A gust of wind blows Dylan’s hat away, and it lands in some very silly places.
Dylan the duck had a new blue woolly hat. It was the best hat in the whole world. Dylan wore it to the park and spun round and round. ‘Look at me!’ he cried.
But then, WHOOSH! A strong gust of wind blew by and plucked the hat right off Dylan’s head! It flew up, up, up into the sky. ‘My hat!’ shouted Dylan. ‘Come back!’
Dylan ran after it. The hat sailed over the fence and landed in the branches of an apple tree. ‘Oh dear,’ said Rani, who had come running. ‘How will we get it back?’ But then WHOOSH! The hat blew away again.
It bounced on a haystack. It spun round the weather vane. It dropped into a bucket and flipped out again. Dylan, Rani and Kai the kitten chased it everywhere.
At last, the wind got tired. The hat drifted down, down, down, and landed with a soft plop on Dylan’s head, right where it belonged. Everybody stared. Then everybody cheered!
‘I think the wind just wanted to dance,’ laughed Rani. Dylan took a ribbon and tied it under his chin. Now the hat would stay on. And if the wind wanted to dance again, Dylan would dance with it.
The little lesson
If you lose something, keep a sense of humour and keep looking.
Let’s talk about it
- Where did the hat land first?
- What would you do if your hat blew away?
