Eli and the Great Blue
Eli is a little fish with a big wish: to see what lies beyond the coral reef.
Eli was a little fish who lived in the coral reef. Every day, he swam round the same rocks and the same pink coral, and every day he wondered, ‘What’s out there, beyond the reef?’
One morning, Eli took a deep gulp of water and swam out past the last piece of coral. The sea became blue, and bigger, and deeper. Eli’s fins went flutter-flutter-flutter.
Then a great shadow floated overhead. It was Wally the whale! ‘Hello, little one,’ said Wally, in a voice like a deep, warm hum. ‘Where are you going?’ ‘I’m exploring,’ said Eli, a little bit squeaky.
‘Hop on,’ said Wally. Eli swam up and sat on the whale’s back. They glided over a glowing cave of crystals. Eli’s eyes grew as round as pearls. There was so much to see!
Soon, Oscar the octopus waved from a rock. ‘Don’t go too far!’ called Oscar. ‘It’s nearly teatime!’ Eli suddenly noticed a little rumble in his tummy. He missed his home.
Wally gave Eli a ride all the way back to the reef. ‘Thank you,’ said Eli. ‘I saw so many wonders.’ ‘You can see more tomorrow,’ said Wally. And Eli swam home to sleep in his cosy coral bed.
The little lesson
The world is full of wonders, and home is wonderful too.
