Enzo’s Hat That Wouldn’t Stay On
A gust of wind blows Enzo’s hat away, and it lands in some very silly places.
Enzo the hippo had a new yellow sun hat. It was the best hat in the whole world. Enzo wore it to the park and spun round and round. ‘Look at me!’ he cried.
But then, WHOOSH! A strong gust of wind blew by and plucked the hat right off Enzo’s head! It flew up, up, up into the sky. ‘My hat!’ shouted Enzo. ‘Come back!’
Enzo ran after it. The hat sailed over the fence and landed on a snoozing duck. ‘Oh dear,’ said Stan, who had come running. ‘How will we get it back?’ But then WHOOSH! The hat blew away again.
It bounced on a haystack. It spun round the weather vane. It dropped into a bucket and flipped out again. Enzo, Stan and Pippa the piglet chased it everywhere.
At last, the wind got tired. The hat drifted down, down, down, and landed with a soft plop on Enzo’s head, right where it belonged. Everybody stared. Then everybody cheered!
‘I think the wind just wanted to dance,’ laughed Stan. Enzo took a ribbon and tied it under his chin. Now the hat would stay on. And if the wind wanted to dance again, Enzo would dance with it.
The little lesson
If you lose something, keep a sense of humour and keep looking.
Let’s talk about it
- Where did the hat land first?
- What would you do if your hat blew away?
