Harvey and a Sock as Big as a House
A giant has lost his sock, and it’s the size of a house! Can small Harvey find it?
Every morning, the giant Moe woke up in a good mood. But one morning, Moe woke up in a very bad mood. ‘My sock!’ he roared. ‘My left sock is MISSING!’
The ground shook. The birds flew off. In the village below, Harvey the hedgehog and Mia the mouse felt the whole street wobble. ‘What is that?’ asked Mia. ‘It’s the giant,’ said Harvey. ‘I think he needs help.’
They climbed up the hill and shouted as loudly as they could. ‘GIANT Moe! What does your sock look like?’ The giant bent down. It was like looking up at a mountain. ‘It’s red and stripy,’ he sniffled. ‘And very, very big.’
So Harvey and Mia set off to look for a red, stripy sock the size of a house. They looked in the barn. No sock. They looked under the bridge. No sock. ‘Hmm,’ said Harvey, thinking hard.
Then Harvey spotted something red and stripy near the forest. It was the sock! And it was being used already, because a family of foxes were using it as a cosy den. ‘It’s a really good sock,’ said Mia.
Harvey had an idea. ‘We can’t take the sock away from everyone,’ he said. ‘But the giant can have the next one we make!’ The villagers knitted day and night, and soon had a brand-new giant-sized sock.
The giant was so happy that he picked up Harvey and Mia and gave them a ride on his shoulders. ‘Thank you, little ones!’ he said. And the old sock stayed where it was, and everybody was snug.
