Lemonade for Everyone, Says Zane
Zane opens a lemonade stand to earn money, but ends up giving away more than he sells.
It was a boiling hot day. Zane set up a lemonade stand outside the house with a sign that said, ‘Lemonade 10p’. He was saving up for a football.
The first customer was Cosmo, who had been playing football. Cosmo was red-faced and thirsty but had no money. Zane filled a cup anyway. ‘It’s on the house,’ he said. Cosmo gulped it down with a grin.
Then Sana the elephant came by, looking hot and tired. Zane gave her a cup and a seat in the shade. ‘You’re very kind,’ said Sana. ‘Please, have a second.’
By evening, Zane had given away nearly every cup. Hardly any coins were in the jar. But Zane felt warm inside. ‘Maybe I’ll save up another day,’ he thought.
Just then, Sana came back, carrying something wrapped in paper. ‘I was thinking about your kindness,’ said Sana. Inside was a football. ‘For the kindest lemonade seller in town.’
The little lesson
Giving brings more joy than keeping.
Let’s talk about it
- Would you give lemonade away?
- Who came to the stand?
