Leo and the Spice Market
Leo gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help him find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Leo was holding Luca’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Leo was alone.
Leo turned round and round. Everything looked the same. His eyes filled with tears. Then Beth the bear leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ she asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Leo. Beth gave him warm bread. ‘Eat that,’ she said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ She rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Nora the zebra ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Leo onto a crate so he could see over the crowd. And there was Luca, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Luca. ‘Me too,’ said Leo. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
