Match Day with Vera

Pearl is going to a real stadium for the very first time!

Today was a very special day. Vera the girl was taking Pearl to the big stadium to watch a real football match!

Pearl wore her red scarf and cap. ‘Ready?’ asked Vera. ‘Ready!’ said Pearl. They hopped on the bus, and off they went.

The stadium was HUGE. There were flags, drums and thousands of happy people. ‘Wow,’ whispered Pearl. Her eyes were as round as footballs.

They found their seats and shared a crunchy apple. Down below, the players ran out onto the bright green grass. Everybody jumped up and CHEERED!

The ball zoomed this way. The ball zoomed that way. Pearl cheered so loudly that her voice went all squeaky. ‘GO, GO, GO!’

Then the whole crowd went quiet. A player took a shot... And the ball flew into the net! GOAL! Pearl hugged Vera so tightly.

On the bus home, Pearl got sleepier and sleepier. ‘Best day ever,’ she yawned, snuggled up against Vera, and dreamed of goals.
