The trees were wearing red, orange and gold. All day, leaves floated down, tick, tick, tick. Nico and Layla the rabbit took rakes to the garden. ‘Let’s make a leaf pile!’ said Nico.
They raked and raked. The pile grew as tall as Layla. Then as tall as Nico. Then Esme the raccoon popped out of the pile. ‘Surprise!’ she laughed. Esme had been napping inside.
‘Let’s jump!’ said Nico. One, two, three, and WHOOSH! They flew into the leaves. Crunch! Leaves flew everywhere like confetti. They giggled so much they couldn’t stop.
When they were tired, they sat down and made a leaf lion from the prettiest leaves. Nico found a golden one the size of a plate. ‘Look at this!’ he cried.
As the sun went down, a gust of wind blew the leaf pile all over again. ‘Let’s do it again tomorrow!’ said Layla. And they did.
