Nora and the Spice Market
Nora gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help her find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Nora was holding Sia’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Nora was alone.
Nora turned round and round. Everything looked the same. Her eyes filled with tears. Then Bruno the bear leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ he asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Nora. Bruno gave her candied nuts. ‘Eat that,’ he said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ He rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Pip the puppy ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Nora onto a crate so she could see over the crowd. And there was Sia, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Sia. ‘Me too,’ said Nora. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
