Opalβs First Rocket Flight
Opal counts down and blasts off for the very first time. Whoosh!
Opal the owl was an astronaut. Today was her first flight into space! She put on her helmet and climbed into the shiny red rocket with Dani the panda.
βReady?β asked Dani. βReady!β said Opal. They counted together. βFive! Four! Three! Two! One!β WHOOOOSH! The rocket blasted up into the sky.
Up, up, up they went, past the birds, past the clouds. The sky turned from blue to dark blue to black. Tiny stars twinkled all around. βWow,β whispered Opal.
Opal looked out of the window and saw a rocket-shaped cloud. βLook!β she said. βItβs the biggest thing I ever saw!β Dani pressed her nose against the glass.
The rocket landed softly on the moon with a gentle bump. Opal stepped out. With each step, she floated up. Boing! Boing! Boing! She could jump higher than a house!
They planted a little flag, and waved to the blue Earth far away. βHello, home!β they called. Then they looked at each other and laughed with joy.
Then it was time to go home. Opal fell asleep on the way, dreaming of planets and stars. And when she woke up, she was in bed, still holding a tiny moon rock.
