Pearl Meets a Monster
Pearl finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than she is.
At bedtime, Pearl heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Pearl pulled the covers to her chin. ‘Who’s there?’ she whispered.
A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Zeke the dinosaur. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Zeke. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Pearl blinked.
Pearl was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ she said kindly. Zeke crawled out, trembling. Pearl gave him a cuddly toy. He said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’
They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Zeke said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Pearl laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’
When Pearl yawned, Zeke tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Zeke. ‘Goodnight,’ said Pearl. And both of them slept soundly.
